2024 SEAD TRAINING COURSE – SINGAPORE: A Report

SINGAPORE, Singapore – SEAD is a patent drafting course offered by the Federation Internationale Des Conseils En Propriete Intellectuelle or the Interntational Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI). For more than 20 years, FICPI has offered students from around the world a unique, high-level patent drafting training course to teach the preparation of patent specifications and claims. This year, 2024, the course was held in Singapore, hosted by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS). HBVAR sent its two associates as representative, Atty. Yazmine Bajamundi-Pura and Atty. John Raphael C. Riel.

The tutors in this SEAD course were Mr. Geoffrey de Kleine, partner of Borden Ladner Gervais; Mr. Dennis Drehkoff, founder of Dennis IP Law Group LLC; Dr. Karl Rackette, senior partner of Rackette Partnerschaft Patentanwalte PartG mbnB; Mr. Simon Roberts, European Patent Attorney and Chartered Patent Attorney (UK); and Mr. Scott Gordon, senior counsel of Aramco.
During the activity, participants were grouped into four. Different topics were discussed during the workshop such as Pre-Drafting Preparation, Claims Drafting with reference to specific prior art and case study, Drafting for Different Jurisdictions, and Enforcement and Infringement. As a final output, participants were given correspondence assignments to earn their Certificates.
